Prepared Childbirth Classes
The Center for Women & Infants invites expectant parents to attend our informative Prepared Childbirth Classes. The classes are taught by Certified Childbirth Educators and explore everything from pregnancy and stages
of labor – to car seat safety and infant CPR. Discussion topics include:
- Pregnancy Topics / Pain / Pre-Labor Signs
- Stages of Labor / Comfort Measures / Labor Positions
- Interventions During Labor & Birth / Pain Medications / Cesarean Birth
- Postpartum Care / Newborn Care / Basic Breastfeeding
- Car Seat Safety / Tour of Labor & Delivery, Postpartum Unit
- Infant CPR
The class fee is $25, and scholarships are available. Classes meet in the Center for Women & Infants Classroom located on the 4th floor. For more information, or to register for one of our classes, call (432) 640-1714.

Follow-Through Care
The Center for Women & Infants offers a Newborn Follow-Through program free of charge to new parents. On the day of your discharge, you will be visited by one of our two Nurse Lactation Specialists who will conduct a general assessment, weight check, and bilirubin check of your baby. We will also schedule your Newborn Follow-Through visit at this time, which usually takes place 2-5 days after discharge from the hospital. Follow-Through visits provide the perfect opportunity to discuss any breastfeeding concerns you may have. Any abnormal findings will be reported to your pediatrician for further assessment.

Breastfeeding Support
The Texas Department of State Health Services has designated MCH as a Texas Ten Step Hospital. This means we are well prepared to support and assist mothers who choose to breastfeed. Two Lactation Specialists are available to provide complimentary breastfeeding consultations before, during and after your hospital stay.
